Kate Rodgers

Design Researcher
Australia

I'm a design researcher working where learning, experience and change meet. I started Wickedly Brilliant to help small businesses and purpose-led organisations create lasting positive impact. I blend human-centred strategy with service design, running workshops, offering strategic advice, and creating learning experiences that turn big ideas into practical steps. I'm finishing my Master of Design Futures, looking at how curiosity drives collective change. With twenty years in business innovation, I bring a playful systems approach and love making complex stuff feel doable. No jargon, no fluff – just strategies that are approachable, actionable and (dare I say) wickedly brilliant.

I'm a design researcher working at the crossroads of learning, experience and change. I run Wickedly Brilliant, an Australian studio that turns big-picture thinking into practical strategy you can actually use. After years leading educational technology in big organisations, I've shifted to design and facilitation. I'm all about helping purpose-driven small and medium businesses reimagine how they create value for customers, communities and our planet. My background's pretty varied - twenty years across corporate and higher education, leading operations, digital transformation, plus some entrepreneurship thrown in. This means I can map complex systems one minute, sketch workshop tools the next, or help you pivot your brand the night before launch (been there!). Clients come to me when they need clarity without the jargon.Research drives everything I do. I'm studying curiosity as a relational approach that shapes our futures, currently finishing my Master of Design Futures at RMIT. I'm hoping to take this further with doctoral work connecting design, curiosity and systems change. What I can do for you:- Design learning experiences that make abstract concepts hands-on- Create business models that balance profit, people and planet- Help embed systems thinking in your organisation- Turn complexity into clear stories through decks and toolkitsI'm keen to collaborate on microlearning programs, partner with mission-driven consultancies, work with agencies embracing regenerative principles, or contribute to research on curiosity and learning.Whether we're creating a new service, running a curiosity sprint or rewiring business for impact, I bring systems thinking, straight-talking advice and a bit of mischievous optimism. Sound interesting? Let's chat.

I am an AuDHD civil-social engineer with 15+ years of experience designing human-centered systems, mutual aid networks, and low-cost social infrastructures that strengthen community resilience. Communities already possess the capacity to self-organize, care for one another, and distribute responsibility, so long as they are given social environments that make those behaviors intuitive.

Currently working as a Freelance Health and Medical Content Writer, but keen to diversify into other areas of interest and expand . Aside from writing, I am hugely passionate about conducting research (for example, scholarly, qualitative, and quantitative), as well as generally delving into topics surrounding physiology and human behaviour. Interests have expanded into design from various perspectives, including visual, industrial, interior, spatial, and architectural. My ultimate goal is to combine my passion for health and wellness with design, in some capacity. I am also equally interested in insights and trend analysis.
