Jim McCool has more than 20 years’ experience as a practitioner of human-centred design, which has included many successful projects such as: an award-winning education portal for the ABC; mobile services for CommBank; innovative online services for the Dept of Employment; and a client-centric transformation of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). Most recently he led a human-centred design approach to place-making, with the on-going renewal of Sydney's famous Circular Quay for Transport for NSW (TfNSW). He has presented at UX Australia on Capitalist Realism and Service Design, while his writing on human-centred design has been published by the This is Human-centred Design Network and UX Collective. He is due to finish a Master of Design Futures at RMIT in June 2020. To relax, Jim practices mindfulness meditation and writes short fiction and poetry; his work has appeared in New Philosopher and the Irish Times.
